How it works

Any clients who have a NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland or Ulster Bank NI business current account or a Mettle account can use FreeAgent for free. Get them set up straight from your dashboard or if they already have a FreeAgent account, you can transfer them to a free licence.

Your clients will get all of the same core features as they would for a paid account and you can still decide on the level of access to give each user.

Mettle

If any of your clients are on the lookout for a dedicated account for their small business, then Mettle, the free digital business account by NatWest, could be a great option. A Mettle account is easy to open, completely free with no hidden costs or transaction fees and, as an additional benefit, provides your clients with access to FreeAgent for free.

Mettle accounts are suitable for:

  • sole traders and limited companies with up to two owners
  • accounts with balances of up to £100K
  • companies based in the UK

For more information on eligibility, visit Mettle's website.

In order to qualify for this offer your clients need to make Mettle their primary business account in FreeAgent. Many of your clients’ bank transaction explanations will then automatically sync between Mettle and FreeAgent.

Opportunities for growth

NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank NI have a network of Business Growth Enablers (BGEs) around the UK. BGEs help local businesses grow and host local networking events. If you take up the opportunity to speak at one of these events, you might find your next client in the audience.

The banks also run an Entrepreneur Accelerator programme from 12 locations across the UK. There is an online Pre-Accelerator for startups, in addition to Accelerator and Fintech programmes for scaling businesses:

  • Pre-Accelerator: an intensive, eight-week programme for early stage startup entrepreneurs.
  • Accelerator: a six-month programme for entrepreneurs with high-growth businesses who are looking to scale up.
  • Fintech: six-month programmes, with hubs located in Bristol, Edinburgh, London and Manchester, all starting in April and October each year.

The programmes are fully funded by the banks. You can find more information here from NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank NI.

What do other accountants think?

“We have been using FreeAgent since 2011 and we were delighted when the connection with NatWest was announced. It's great to be able to offer clients a solution for MTD for VAT that is excellent for their needs - and free!

Virtually all our existing NatWest customers have taken up a new, free licence and most of our business startups go to NatWest as their bank of choice. As a forward-thinking practice, we've attended various local Boost events with NatWest and FreeAgent, and this has had a very positive effect on our new client numbers in recent months.”
