Third-party accounts production tools you can connect to FreeAgent
While FreeAgent can help you forecast your clients’ Corporation Tax liability, you might use a third-party accounts production tool to file their completed Corporation Tax returns with HMRC. By connecting your clients’ FreeAgent accounts with one of these tools, you can avoid having to manually enter data, which should save numerous hours and reduce the risk of human error.
Here are the third-party accounts production tools you can use alongside FreeAgent, as well as some tips to help you get started.
Tools that you can integrate with FreeAgent directly
You can use the following Corporation Tax or accounts production and filing tools to automatically import trial balance data from FreeAgent:
BTCSoftware
You can import your clients’ trial balances into BTCSoftware from FreeAgent. You can then use BTCSoftware's traffic light system to make sure the nominal codes are mapped correctly. You can also make journal entry adjustments in BTCSoftware and then sync the data with FreeAgent, removing the need for manual data entry. Check out our blog to learn more about this integration.
IRIS
The IRIS Accounts Production module allows you to automatically import trial balance data from client accounts into IRIS’s compliance, accountancy and payroll software. Check out IRIS’s Knowledge Base to find out what data you can import.
TaxCalc
TaxCalc’s easy-to-use wizard allows you to import a client’s trial balance directly into your TaxCalc account from FreeAgent. The tool can also be used by clients. To get started, check out this video.
Tools that you can use to map client data from CSV file uploads
You can export a client’s trial balance from FreeAgent into a CSV file and then upload it into the following accounts production tools, which all map the codes and values correctly:
Caseware
Caseware’s desktop suite has a comprehensive Excel import wizard that you can use to import trial balance data that’s contained in a CSV file. You can then produce financial statements, tax returns and audits quickly and securely. To get started, contact Caseware to request a copy of their user guide.
KeyTime
Keytime, part of the IRIS group, allows you to upload your clients’ trial balance data, either from Excel or as CSV files, into the software’s accounts production environment. Check out Keytime’s Knowledge Base to find out more about the import process.
Sage
Sage provides numerous accounts production tools you can use to submit your clients’ Corporation Tax returns once you’ve exported their data from FreeAgent. Sage Accounts Production (SAP) and Sage Final Accounts (FAO) will both accept trial balance data in a CSV file while Sage Accounts Production Advanced (SAPA) can accept data imported from Excel.
TaxFiler
If you use TaxFiler, you can import a CSV file containing your clients’ trial balance information. It will then validate the mapping data, giving you an opportunity to check that the codes have been allocated correctly. Check out this video to find out more.
Thomson Reuters, Digita Accounts Production Advanced (DAPA)
Thomson Reuters’ Digita Accounts Production Advanced (DAPA) has a trial balance import option. As part of the import process, simply define the columns and rows you need and follow the mapping process to match standard Digita nominal codes. Please contact Thomson Reuters (Digita) support for more information.
VT Final Accounts
VT Software’s accounts production package runs in Microsoft Excel. The VT toolbar includes a button for importing trial balance data as a CSV file. Check out VT Software’s support articles for more information.
Wolters Kluwer, CCH Central
Once you’ve exported your trial balance from FreeAgent into a CSV file, you can upload it into CCH Central and then select the appropriate FreeAgent mapping file. This will import the relevant data into CCH Central. Contact Wolters Kluwer to request the ‘quick start’ guide that covers this process in more detail.
